Artist Statement
My
work, both sculptural and functional, is derived from the idea of
symbolic ornamentation. Using the figure as a point of departure, I
draw reference from classical marble sculpture, the decorative
arts and fashion styles of the Baroque Era, as well as iconography and
kitsch from vintage American Culture, to develop a whimsical, somewhat
campy, narrative that
exploits various aspects of the human condition.
Biography
Jacob Ford was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1990. He is
currently completing a BFA in Studio Art: Ceramics as well as a BS in
Art Eduction at Appalachian State University.
